The Friendly Kitchen in Garden County
Beginning January 17, 2012 the Gander Inn in Lewellen began opening its doors twice a month to the community with a free soup kitchen that they call the “Friendly Kitchen”. “We choose to call it the ‘Friendly Kitchen’ as our ministry is to bless others through meals and to offer a positive experience for all.”
This kitchen will be run as is traditionally done through local volunteers who will cook the food, serve our guests and clean up. The “Friendly Kitchen” is an establishment which offers meals to people for free in hopes of meeting a variety of individual needs. Visitors to a soup kitchen do not need to meet any eligibility requirements, with meals being offered to all without cost or question.
For some, coming to the friendly kitchen means being able to help stretch the monthly food budget, for others, it may be a great way for single parents to take the kids out for a nice meal, and for others it may simply be a chance to get out and enjoy a great time of fellowship with friends and neighbors without concern of cost.
When asked how this ministry will be supported, our response was “We trust the Lord to provide the resources for the kitchen.” So far that support has come locally through several donations as well as local support from grocers with reduced prices. “We would welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering as well as any donations of support to this ministry.” .
The Gander Inn “Friendly Kitchen” will be open the third Tuesday and Thursday each month throughout the year and will be serving dinners from our regular dinner menu between the hours of 4:30pm-6:30pm. We ask that you call 778-5616 to let us know you are coming so we have enough food prepared. Each month there will be a different entrée served each night..

We would like to say “Thank You” to all the volunteers and supporters of this ministry. It is such a blessing to have the support from all of you. Last year, The Friendly Kitchen served over 800 meals to the community.
We will be adding a breakfast buffet on Sunday from 10:30 to 12:30 at different times through out the year. The dates will be posted with the other menu information.
We are also looking forward to the second annual Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner will be buffet style with turkey and all the trimmings. On Thanksgiving Day, The Friendly Kitchen will be opened to all from 1 PM to 5PM.
The Gander Inn “Friendly Kitchen” will continue to be open the third Tuesday and the fourth Tuesday each month throughout the year and will be serving dinners from our regular dinner menu between the hours of 4:30pm-6:30pm. We ask that you call 778-5616 to let us know you are coming so we have enough food prepared. Each month there will be a different entrée served each night.
